šŸ“˜ Why HVAC Prices Might Be Going Up (and What You Can Do About It)

Posted by Air Conditioning Guys | April 2025

If you're planning to replace or upgrade your HVAC system this year, here's something important you should know: new government tariffs are expected to drive up the cost of HVAC equipment - even for American-made products.

šŸ›‘ What’s Changing?

On April 2, President Trump announced a new round of what he called ā€œreciprocal tariffsā€ - extra taxes on goods imported from other countries. These are going into effect starting April 5 and April 9, 2025, and the tariffs are steep:

  • China: 34%

  • European Union: 20%

  • Japan: 24%+

  • Taiwan: 32%

  • Vietnam: 46%

  • All countries: 10% baseline on top of that

That’s a big deal because many HVAC components are made overseas — including motors, fans, and electronics - even if the units are assembled here in the U.S.

šŸ’” Why It Matters to You

These tariffs are likely to increase the cost of:

  • Air conditioners

  • Furnaces

  • Heat pumps

  • Ductless mini-split systems

Industry experts agree: manufacturers will probably pass those increased costs down to contractors, and then to customers.

So if you’re thinking about upgrading your system, now may be the best time to act before prices rise.

šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø Is This Good for U.S. Manufacturing?

The goal of these tariffs is to encourage companies to build more in the U.S. - which could help long-term - but in the short term, it means we’ll all feel the impact of higher costs.
